Aussie Kids Label Piccolina joins Something Nice For Kids

Something Nice For Kids welcomes Piccolina

Jaqueline Dimiccio, head designer of the beautiful and timeliness children's clothing label Piccolina, has recently joined the list of overseas and now growing local designers appearing on Something Nice For Kids.

One question I get asked from time to time is: when are you going to start stocking more Aussie labels?
Well for everyone that has been asking me, I am happy and very excited to introduce Piccolina to the Something Nice For Kids family. The label has many loyal devotees around Australia ( I am one! well actually both my daughter erini and I are). We plan to grow the devotees of this gorgeous label further here in Australia and also let our customers overseas in on a kids designer secret.

What does Piccolina stand for?

Piccolina has become a name synonymous with beautiful, timeless design for children’s clothing. By celebrating colour, detail and embellishment, Piccolina has established itself as an important resource for clothing that is feminine, witty and modern.

What will your find in the Piccolina range?

Piccolina’s clothing collection always consists of fully coordinated skirts, pants, jackets, t-shirts and knitwear and dresses that are beautiful, simple and wearable for girls aged 2 – 8 years. Hi everyone, today I have been busily putting together invitations for my son Dion's Christening and came across some handy tips on wrapping presents. Ok. so it isn't about invitations but it still will save me stacks of time when wrapping presents.

The website by Martha Stewart is both practical and a great kid craft website. I found a section which helps make the perfect bow for all your presents. I know I try forever to try and get a bow right, and even for your gift wrapping I take my time, because it has to look perfect. The tips on this site, have helped me with saving some time, I hope they help you too.

At first the intructions look like there are not much, but if you get a ribbon out at the same time, it makes lots of sense. Make sure you follow the description to get the right instructions and follow the #2 drawing to get the bow ready for folding. Click here to view the site

Another site helps you wrap the perfect presents like a professional from the wrapping paper company. To view the tips on how to do it and to print them out click here.

On a fashion note, if you are needing clothing and not necessarily party clothing for your daughter/child who is tall, petite, then Haute Chocolate is for you. Check out their designs which are made not on the traditional sizing of kids.

The designer Leslie, started making the designs after not being able to find hip clothes for her own daughter. Now she exports her clothes to the whole of the USA and now through Something Nice For Kids, in Australia. Take a look at her range and see for yourself the stunning and stylish girls clothes that she creates for our gorgeous children.

If you like a particular product, contact Vicky because although the pieces are one-off designs she sometimes has enough material to make one more piece.

We just love stylish, eco-friendly shoes for our baby’s….

One designer that makes me love buying shoes is the adorable Mia JoieTM brand. These gorgeous shoes are handmade by designer Jessica in the States and are a must have for any stylish bub (girls and boys).

Designer Jessica describes her shoes as “ stylish, super soft and ultra eco-friendly”. The shoes are individually handmade from organic and reclaimed fabrics. In addition to using organic cotton in her shoes, all Mia Joie shoes come specially gift packaged in an eco-friendly and reusable fabric bag. Mia Joie also donates 10% of all sales to Giving Children Hope, a non-profit organization that refurbishes medical equipment to assist needy children.

To view the gorgeous collection of Mia Joie shoes available in Australia, Click here.

Why Organic?

First of all, non-organic cotton, while taking up only 2-3% of the earth's cropland, uses a whopping 23% of the world's pesticides. Some of these pesticides are known carcinogens that also make their way into water and surrounding food sources. Second, organic fabrics have also been known to be less irritating to skin, which is especially important for delicate newborns. Third, many of the same companies that produce organic fabrics are also manufacturing them in GREEN facilities. Finally, other organic fabrics are made from sustainable products and do not use PDEs. Most of Mia Joie flowers and other decorative elements are made from Eco-spun felt that is made from 100% post-consumer plastic, namely water bottles.

Just in case your were asking what does “reclaimed mean”?

If an item features "reclaimed" materials, it means it was created from something that has been discarded for one reason or another. A vintage dress with an irreparable tear, a dated old suit coat, a swatch of discontinued fabric -- whatever the case may be, an existing material is adapted for a new use with the end product being both beautiful and good for the planet. Any items made from reclaimed materials are truly couture in the sense that they are made in very limited quantity.

The lengths we have gone to get unique things for you

Something nice for kids- Australia as mentioned in my first post started out of my frustration of not being able to find something nice for my daughter to wear to one of our greek family weddings. The more I spoke with friends the more I found I wasn't alone. I decided it was time to do something about it. and that i did. I took the opportunity to use our summer vacation to Greece as the start of my scouting for kids partywear and special occasion clothing.

Welcome Paris, France.
I couldn't really then pass up the opportunity of being so close to some of the worlds fashion capitals and not visit them. So with my husband and daughter erini in tow, we caught a plane and arrived in the fashion capital Paris 5 days later.

Well for those of you who have kids, travelling with children is truly a unique and may I say character building experience.

We visited many children's boutiques, designers and established some great networks for bringing in new designers to Australia from France. You will see one of the designers arrive into Australia in early 2009. The label designs beautiful clothing for baby's, girls and boys clothing. The clothes are just delightful and of great quality. Perfect for a present for someone too.

What else did we get up to in Paris?

Let's say, the Eiffel tower looks great from one kilometre away, the louvre entrance looked spectacular from the outside and the Jardin des Tuileries gardens was our home for most mornings. Pictured here is my daughter erini standing outside the Louvre (this is as close as we got!!!). You might think why, why why... but when you have kids life has a way of shifting priorities.

What is the Jardin des Tuileries? It is Paris's most central garden. It connects the Louvre with the Place de la Concorde and forms a part of the large central axis between the Louvre and La Défense. It is a haven for parents and their kids. You have the gorgeous enclosed kids park at one end, the pony rides, boat races at one end and then the famous fun park with its huge ferris wheel on the other.

This trip was a great experience for us here at somethingniceforkids and a great inspiration for bringing in new clothing labels. Erini below is wearing one of the labels we are going to be bringing in for you to enjoy soon.

Searching everywhere for beautiful kids partywear.. the tide has turned

How often have you looked for kids clothing which is elegant and beautiful for that special occasion, but have always ended up with parents looking elegant and kids looking good in a smart casula top and skirt ? Doesnt paint the greatest picture.

Well, after years of research into what mums want for their kids, I have found designers that carry dressy partywear for girls starting from newborn through 10 year olds, which is both elegant and beautiful, these will be staple designers. The quantities available are small so to lend itself to the exclusivity of these designers, so first in best dressed. Each season new stock will arrive, sometimes every month.

As for new designers, I am constantly contacting new designers to bring them into the country and so far so good.

Most of the designers have not been available in Australia before, but are quite big in their own country, eg. Lucy Sykes, Tina Neumann, Mia Joie baby shoes, Holly Jones just to name a few.

On the website i have managed to get Michelle Kouzmine who is a US fashion journalist to contribute to the website, so stay tuned for new and up and coming fashion trends due to hit the Australian stores.

If you have any suggestions on what styles of clothing and designers you may want to see in the future please post a comment.
